  15. <p>     DIED. ALLAN GILBERT ODELL, 90, former advertising manager and
  16. president of Burma-Vita; in Edina, Minnesota. In 1926, Odell
  17. created one of the oddest and most memorable gimmicks in the
  18. history of American advertising--a series of six roadside
  19. signs, five containing portions of a whimsical couplet and the
  20. last providing the punctuation of the brand name: GRANDPA'S...OUT
  21. WITH...JUNIOR'S DATE...OLD TECHNIQUE...WITH BRAND-NEW BAIT...BURMA
  22. SHAVE. The poems eventually sprang up at 7,000 locations in
  23. 45 states, becoming an essential part of the popular culture
  24. of their day.
